The Village Charter School community in Boise, Idaho believes that learning a second language reinforces understanding of one’s first language, develops communicative competence, strengthens reading and writing skills, and opens the door to a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the richness of diverse cultures.
Spanish language instruction begins in Kindergarten, and is continued throughout. Concepts for learning Spanish are reinforced by integrating them into regular classroom instruction where possible. Spanish is taught by a Spanish teacher and is part of our core curriculum.
Middle School Component
The Village Charter School 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in Spanish instruction as part of our core curriculum. Spanish is taught by a Spanish teacher and is offered as part of our core curriculum. We recognize that learning Spanish may be new and exciting for our middle school students! Advanced courses are offered for students who are interested.
The Village Charter School will adopt Spanish curriculum for all grades that meets the following criteria: 1) can be differentiated to meet the needs of students at different levels of readiness, 2) is research-based, 3) has consistent, proven results as demonstrated by students who are meeting and ideally exceeding state standards, and 4) where possible, The Village Charter School uses a curriculum that incorporates hands on learning activities.
